Here are a couple of old pictures from a few years back...

These where taken in about 2003 at the Anchor pub near Selsey, Craig who was one of the Roadies at the time can be seen setting up some of our old gear, its funny to look back at the setup compared to how it is now....
We where still using our old twin deck in 2003, which can be seen here, it was the Citronic Avon Mk1

Good old Craig the Roadie, unfortunately no longer with us....

I have no idea who these guys where but all I remember was they had a great night...
Its not often you take that certain picture and it says a thousand words, the above picture is just one of those that you could not plan to take, but then you see you have captured a magic moment....many more to follow..
I took this picture as we where packing up, I wish I knew who these guys where to credit them on the photo but it was many years ago now, and all I remember was they had a great time, the photo says it all...

Some old Photos of the Disco in and around Bognor Regis Area....

I wanted to put up some pictures of various stages of our Disco over the years, (these will follow on the next part of the blog) some of these pictures date back many years so you can see how the setup has changed over time, the thing is with a Disco you have to keep moving forward when new things come out, the technology is always changing and so is the show, the lights seem to get lighter and more compact each year, but one thing you can not reduce in size effectively is speakers, yes I have seen the Bose systems of late and im not really impressed, these systems look like a couple of bean poles, maybe hard to describe here, so let me find you a picture...

Here are two typical setups using the Bose L1 speaker system, these are not my pictures, but just an example of two scenarios the systems may be used in, on the left is a small and very basic DJ setup (well not to my taste anyway) and above to the right is the Bose L1 being used in a live group application. My opinion on this system is its horrendously overpriced, and amazingly underpowered, whats somewhat obvious is simple dynamics to get a good solid bass response as used In Disco and club applications you need to move air, sound waves move through air, so by logik the larger the air surface you can push back and forth the more thump and volume units your be putting out, this is why nightclubs usually run a system of sub bass and top end, a duel system both delivering different audio frequency's, so whats all this supposed to mean to you, the man in the street, by simple mathematics the bigger the speaker enclosure (up to a sensible point) the better the bass response. As you can see the Bose L1 systems as often pushed by some wedding DJ's are sectional and quite compact, in fact they have a version called the Bose L1 compact in the range. To rectify the issue of the thin sound or midrange as its known coming from the broomstick speakers Bose have said we all need to use the Bose L1 Sub box, again considerably expensive (£2100 with system 2) so what we have now is a two part system, consisting of midrange and top (Tweeter) in the broomsticks and sub (bass frequency in the bins) Fantastic!!......Except any old school DJ will tell you two part systems have been standard in night clubs for years, a lot of good mobile DJ's also used a two part system consisting of say a 12" (Inch) top cabinet and a maybe 15" (Inch) Bass cabinet, to get the sound right the bass is giving you the thud thud thud (Belly Booms) while the top is giving you the vocals and midrange spectrum, its a system that works fairly well, unfortunately Bose decided to capatalise on simple mathematics and sell this very expensive system to rather naive DJ operators and groups.

These are pretty much a standard set of top speakers, the type most mobile Discos would use week in week out, they are wired to full range, which means they have a wide range of frequency response over the entire sound spectrum, top mid and bass, in standard configuration and for smaller venues and events these would be all that is needed for fairly decent sound.

To greatly improve the sound many DJ's will add the second part of the system as talked about above and that's of course the sub bass cabinet, (remember the Bose will need one to sound anywhere near half decent) In my opinion apart from being expensive as heck, the Bose system is quite inefficient without its sub bass unit, it is of course a lot lighter then a large sub and top speaker system, maybe that's the advantage..?

We use a two part system ourselves, consisting of a large 18" or 15" inch sub bass unit, and a top unit maybe a 8" or 12" inch unit, sometimes we also use an all in one full range cabinet, this of course is a lot simpler setup and suitable for village halls and small venues, amplification is important and we will usually use at least two amplifiers and carry a third for a spare, breakdowns are not common but well worth avoiding, getting the sound right and balanced for your event is very important, we at Atlantic Sound always make sure the sound is balanced and correct for your room, there is no way to just walk in throw some speakers up and think thats it, because it isnt, getting the sound colour right is very important if you want to have a fun filled night and get down on the dancefloor, I beleive the sound aspect of the show is without a doubt one of the most important aspects, I will talk about lighting in a later update, but for me sound is a must, and we will always make sure its the right sound for your room and event, there is nothing worse then walking into a room to the distorted sound of some cheap speaker system being pushed way beyond its rated power, what you and your guests want is a well balanced tone with good bass response at the right time, now lets dance..........

Ok so ive researched lots of information on Google ranking etc, but its a total minefield, so for now a Bacon and Egg Sandwich sounds more appetizing then trying to reprogram HTML code ha ha, but seriously it will be done shortly...

The thing is to gain good ranking you need good keywords, the web search engines love good keywords, a bit like I love a good curry, finding a good curry isnt as easy, but in Bognor Regis I could recommend two places I have used over the years, Fais Kitchen in Aldwick Road, and Bright Moon in London Road,  ha ha I digress...

Ok so its good to see the weather is vastly improving, of course with luck this will bring people out their houses and into the summer fetes and events which hopefully this year won't be washed out by the rain, I know that this is Bognor Regis, but come on it seriously did nothing but rain last year, I love to grow my own vegetables and it was an impossible task last year, with a bit of luck this summer will be a great improvement.

So with the rather cold and dreary Winter finally subsiding I hope to get out to some Wedding Fairs through the summer and if anyone has any sugestions of any round here, West Sussex in general then please let me know, meanwhile we are available for Discos as always on Bognor Regis: 01243 268781 so give me a call and I will be happy to help you out.

You Tube Tunes that rock the floor...

Already feeling a lot more secure, ok so after my rather unexpected web move, its a bit like a house move with less boxes, I am now all settled here on the Blogger network, OK.....so the advantages that I can see are easy updates, good user interface and now its easier for me to upload new pictures and video, which I will be doing as we go along, its funny to think 20 years ago I didn't even have a computer conected to the internet, now the entire world is dependent on them.

So the weather seems to be improving and with a bit of luck this will put more people in the party mood, also what better time to get out in the garden and get that barbecue fired up, maybe get a marquee from us (if you have a big enough garden) and have a here comes summer party, yes do not forget we have a huge amount of PA lighting and various atmospherics to make any party go with a swing, our marquee is pretty big I will try to get some photos this week on here so you can see what you can hire.

For outside events I also have on offer two good powerful generators and for events which require it long range radio mics, ideal for public events, in the past we have provided on site PA for Aldwick Parish Council and of course are happy to supply set up and organize any event for local groups, from a microphone to a speaker to a full sound and light set up we can supply and offer a great level of service.

Important notice to all current clients and future clients, Due to the constantly increasing costs of the company Big Wet Fish we have removed ourselves from their server, this in the most part is due to the constant outages and website shut downs since being under their control, I also found that I had little to no control over the website updates and as I had a huge amount of new media and pictures to publish I have now for the time being moved my website parking to Blogger.

Now many people will question why we are running on Blogger for a small business such at Atlantic Sound Discos, well the logic is obvious to me, Google own and run the biggest search engine network in the world, they own Youtube, Gmail, Picasa you name it they own it, so to me it makes perfect sense to have our website hosted by them on the blogger system, it also means updates, photos and videos will be coming on a lot sooner and faster.

I am not an expert on Blogger or websites in general but will work it out as I go along and improve it to make it a professional website to promote our Mobile Disco Service, we have been providing Disc Jockey services for 20 Years now and have no intention of going anywhere, we are here to stay!!.

If you are planning a Wedding or party in general please call me on 07979 846933 or in the evening your welcome to call 01243 268781, the reason for the second number being evenings is because I am in and out during other times and most people have FREE phone calls to landlines after 6pm (although it can be 7pm with some service providers).

So this is a new opportunity to refresh things and change quite a lot around, meanwhile as always myself and Kevin are ready and waiting to provide top quality Disc Jockey Services to you and your guests.
